The full answer
Functional Capacity Assessments (FCAs) are occupational health assessments, usually done by occupational therapists. They measure physical and cognitive capacity — range of motion, lifting ability, stamina, concentration, problem-solving. Results feed directly into NDIS plan goals. The NDIA may request an FCA if a participant claims work capacity or if goals need evidence. FCAs cost $600-$1,200 and take 3-4 hours. Private practitioners can deliver FCAs as NDIS-funded capacity-building supports. Some participants use FCAs to challenge low work-capacity findings.
