The full answer
NDIS registrations last exactly 3 years from grant date. Before expiry: 1) About 4-6 months before, the Commission reminds you in writing, 2) You decide: re-register or exit? 3) If re-registering, engage an Approved Quality Auditor and follow the audit process again (Verification if still low-risk, Certification if higher-risk), 4) Submit new application + audit findings to the Commission, 5) Receive new registration and provider number (your old number cancels). Re-registration is not automatic renewal — you must re-audit and re-apply. It's cheaper than initial registration because your systems are in place, but it's still $1,500-$12,000+ depending on scope. Many providers exit the NDIS at 3-year mark due to compliance burden — don't assume continuation.
